Porum girls vs. Quinton highlights Porum tourney finals

Quinton girls basketball team won handily and Porum squeezed out a one-point victory in the Jan. 20 semifinals of the Porum Cross Telephone Tournament to face off tonight in the final. Meanwhile, Quinton's boys put themselves to the test in the final against a Warner team that proved its scoring ability in the semifinal. Here's a look at the slate for the Porum tourney today, along with Stigler playing in the Checotah tourney.

Porum Cross Telephone Tournament

Keota girls (6-9) vs. Gore (2-9) (consolation final) 1:30 p.m.

Last game: Keota 41, Panola 12; Gore 47, Midway 39.

Last meeting: Keota 47, Midway 40 (Jan. 19, 2015)

Notes: Gore snapped its nine-game losing streak by topping the Chargers in the consolation semifinals.

Keota boys (3-12) vs. Midway (6-7) (consolation final) 2:50 p.m.

Last game: Keota 50, Gore 39; Midway 70, Panola 49.

Last meeting: Keota 54, Midway 46 (Jan. 19, 2015)

Notes: Phil Lipari heated up in the third quarter against Gore in the consolation semifinal on Jan. 19, scoring 11 of his 15 points to key the comeback win. Keota's Jackson Cole has 25 points in the last two games.

McCurtain girls (4-11) vs. Warner (7-7) (third place game) 4:10 p.m.

Last game: Quinton 59, McCurtain 17; Porum 50, Warner 49.

Notes: McCurtain scores 36.8 points per game while Warner averages 48 per game.

McCurtain boys (9-9) vs. Porum (9-6) (third place game) 5:30 p.m.

Last game: Warner 81, McCurtain 54; Quinton 52, Porum 39.

Last meeting: McCurtain 68, Porum 53 (Jan. 21, 2014)

Notes: Porum's Mason Coulston scored 21 points in the semifinal against Quinton on Jan. 19 after only getting four in the Jan. 16 first round win against Gore. McCurtain's Marlin Rocha scored 17 points in the loss to Warner.

Quinton girls (14-1, ranked 13th in Class 2A) vs. Porum (12-3, ranked 20th in Class A) (final) 7:10 p.m.

Last game: Quinton 59, McCurtain 17; Porum 50, Quinton 49.

Last meeting: Porum 46, Quinton 38 (Jan. 24, 2015)

Notes: Porum beat Quinton in the Porum Cross Telephone Tournament final two years ago when the Panthers went through the regular season undefeated. This year, Quinton is a force, having won 13 straight games. The Savages have ground opponents down defensively, allowing 27 points per game.

Quinton boys (7-8) vs. Warner (9-5) (final) 8:30 p.m.

Last game: Quinton 62, Porum 49; Warner 81, McCurtain 54.

Last meeting: Warner 51, Quinton 43 (Dec. 17, 2016)

Notes: Warner's Clayton Kilpatrick scored 25 points in the win against McCurtain on Jan. 19. Quinton averages 46. 1 points per game and allows 45.9 per game. Warner, which has won four straight games, scores 57.9 points per game and allows 51.2 per game. The Eagles have beaten the Savages twice this season.

Checotah Crossroads Classic

Stigler girls (12-3, ranked 15th in Class 3A) vs. Eufaula (9-3, ranked 12th in Class 3A) (third place game) 3:30 p.m.

Last game: Muldrow 55, Stigler 24 ; Hilldale 41, Eufaula 34.

Last meeting: Eufaula 51, Stigler 46 (Dec. 17, 2016)

Notes: The Ironheads beat the Panthers in the Wilburton Roundball Classic final. The Ironheads have lost three of their last five games. Stigler scores 50 points per game and allows 37.1 per game. Eufaula averages 53.7 points per game and allows 37.2 per game.
