Porum starts Armstrong Bank Tournament, more area hoops

Porum's boys basketball team looks poised to make a stronger run in its first home tournament, the Armstrong Bank Invitational, as it opens play in the tournament tonight. Here's the full slate of area hoops for tonight.

Porum boys (2-1) vs. Panama (3-0) (Armstrong Bank Invite) 8:30 p.m.

Last game: Okay 70, Porum 36; Panama 42, Pocola 27.

Notes: Porum won one game last year in the Armstrong Bank Invite, losing the consolation final to Panama 53-37. This year, Porum could do better with an improved offfense and should have a better shot against the Razorbacks. The winner likely faces Kinta, the top-ranked team in Class B, in the semifinals on Friday, Dec. 9.

McCurtain boys (3-5) vs. Buffalo Valley (3-3, ranked 18th in Class B) (Eastern Oklahoma State College Tournament) 8:15 p.m.

Last game: Keota 39, McCurtain 37. Clayton 70, Buffalo Valley 56.

Notes: McCurtain won one game last year in the EOSC tourney. The winner plays LeFlore on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

McCurtain girls (2-6) vs. Gans (1-2)  (EOSC tourney) 4:30 p.m.

Last game: Keota 53, McCurtain 21. Porter 51, Gans 32.

Last meeting: Gans 60, McCurtain 46.

Notes: McCurtain won one game at the EOSC tourney last year. The winner of this game plays Smithville on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
